Renate Pfeifer, Haven of Tranquility I, 40 x 50, Oil on Canvas
Renate Pfeifer - a few lines about me and painting …
.... born and raised in Linz on March 20, 1960, I moved to Vienna at the age of 18 and stayed there. After a few years of professional self-discovery, I worked in advertising and marketing for almost two decades, before finally trying something completely new with my husband in 2011: we opened a restaurant in the 7th district, which is now well established and has allowed me to live out my artistic side for a few years.
Autodidact
I am a passionate autodidact who absorbs all information, experiments a lot, tries things out and learns from them. At the same time, I took a few painting courses where my "master and mentor" René Herar encouraged me to go public with my photorealistic works.
Oil painting
My technique is oil on canvas or wood panel, the oil paints are applied in many delicate layers according to the rule of fat on lean in order to achieve a special effect of depth.
Inspiration
I work from photos of places I have been to and which have touched me in one way or another. I get a lot of inspiration from my stays in Cornwall; I love the sea, the cliffs, the vastness, the colours of this unique landscape. At home in Vienna, I am very lucky to have a clear view of the sky and can capture many cloud formations and lighting moods on camera in order to later transform them into paintings. But what fascinates me most is the silence and peace that you can still find in nature.
Moments of peace and silence
I try to express this silence in painting and with my pictures I want to give the viewer a moment of peace and "calm down" - in a world that is becoming more and more chaotic and uncertain, to be able to pause for a moment and forget the stress, the hustle and bustle and the noise!
